The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), known for its Nandini brand of dairy products, is vying for sponsorship opportunities for one or possibly multiple teams at the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in June.


As per reports, KMF has released a tender, seeking proposals from companies interested in showcasing the Nandini logo on the primary arm sleeve of one or multiple teams participating in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. 


The tournament, set to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States between June 1 and  June 29 will see 20 teams playing this season. 


The brand has associated with other sports in the past. For instance, they have been associate sponsors of the Bengaluru Bulls at the Pro Kabaddi League. But not with cricket.  



Looks like the Nandini- Amul is taking a new turn with Nandini debuting on the cricket pitch. 


Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, known for its Amul brand of dairy products has been long in the game. In 2011, they sponsored the Netherlands cricket team at that year's World Cup and ever since there has been no looking back. Amul has partnered and collaborated with various teams like New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. In 2019, Amul also became the principal sponsor of the Afghanistan cricket team.


KMF officials told Moneycontrol that they are looking for one or two teams including India, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Oman, Netherlands, Uganda and Namibia.


"We have issued a tender and are in the process of finalising it. We will award the work order after receiving permission from the Election Commission." This is because being a public sector undertaking, KMF is governed by the model code of conduct that kicked in when the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha election was announced on March 16, and all major decisions have to be approved by the electoral body,” Moneycontrol quoted KMF managing director MK Jagadish.

This also presents an excellent opportunity to potentially boost sales, as exemplified by the remarkable success of Tata Tiago EV's advertising campaign during the IPL.

By leveraging the appeal of these popular figures in CTV advertising, brands create a profound sense of relatability, forging authentic connections with their target audience.

It's worth highlighting that even B2B brands have entered the advertising arena surrounding major cricket tournaments, often becoming sponsors themselves. The surging demand for advertising in this space has driven up CPMs (cost per thousand, a measure of cost to audience numbers that advertisers use to gauge the efficiency of their messaging), primarily attributable to the vast viewership these events command. This dynamic landscape underscores the multifaceted nature of cricket event advertising, where B2C advertisers, publishers and even B2B entities converge to capitalise on the cricket frenzy that grips India and beyond.

Meanwhile, publishers are playing a pivotal role in the advertising ecosystem by facilitating effective connections between brands and their audiences. Expanding beyond CTV and OTT platforms, sports websites have emerged as potent avenues for revenue monetisation, offering competitive CPM rates.

Publishers, recognising the value of their digital real estate, have adeptly tapped into the potential for revenue generation by providing advertisers with a diverse range of platforms. This expansion into website monetisation broadens the scope of advertising during cricket events, offering brands a multifaceted approach to engaging with viewers. Consequently, publishers have become indispensable partners in ensuring that brands can maximise their impact and returns during these highly anticipated sporting spectacles.

 

What is the role of CTV in reaching a diverse and engaged audience? How can advertisers optimise revenue via CTV and OTT during events like the World Cup?

CTV has truly revolutionised the advertising sector, offering a dynamic platform to engage with viewers spanning diverse demographics and regions. Beyond its advertising capabilities, CTV stands out for its provision of comprehensive reporting and statistical data, empowering real-time, insightful decision-making. To further enhance interactivity, brands can explore dynamic ad formats such as 3D ads or include gamification elements within their CTV and display campaigns. These initiatives empower viewers to engage with the content in an enjoyable and meaningful manner, consequently extending their time spent with the brand. Moreover, harnessing the power of social media integration can stimulate real-time conversations and content sharing, amplifying the campaign's reach well beyond the confines of CTV and OTT platforms.

Brands are poised to make significant investments in leveraging CTV and OTT platforms during the 2023 World Cup, with ad spend for this highly anticipated event expected to reach remarkable heights. Notably, key sectors like B2C, including FMCG and automobiles, are likely to lead the charge in terms of ad spend. Estimates suggest that each brand's ad spend during the World Cup could range from approximately Rs 24 lakh to Rs 30 lakh //changed million to lakh to conform to style//, reflecting their substantial commitment to connect with the cricket-loving audience.

What's particularly noteworthy is that brands aren't confining their resources solely to the World Cup; they are also synchronising this spend with festive season advertising campaigns. To maximise their impact, brands are adopting a dynamic approach, adjusting their advertisements based on audience interactions. This trend underscores the notion that the audience plays a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of these ads. In this dynamic landscape, consumer interaction and engagement are paramount, serving as critical determinants in brand consideration. This flexible approach ensures that brands remain agile and responsive to the evolving preferences and interests of their target audience during the World Cup, thereby optimising their ad spend for maximum effectiveness.

CTV empowers creation of hyper-targeted campaigns: Arjit Sachdeva of VDO.AI

Disney Star will be the home of all ICC cricket in India for the next four years having won the TV and digital rights to both men’s and women’s global events through to the end of 2027. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on August 27.

The bid was won by Disney Star two months after it successfully retained the television rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rs 3,575 crore, for the period between 2023 and 2027.

Disney Star won the rights following a single round sealed bid process which has yielded a significant uplift to the rights fee from the previous cycle continuing the impressive growth and reach of cricket.

According to sources tracking the development, Disney Star's bid was close to $3 billion, which is equivalent to around Rs 24,000 crore, for both digital and TV rights in the Indian subcontinent region, Moneycontrol reported. 

The decision followed a robust tender, bidding and evaluation process, which started in June 2022.

ICC Chair Greg Barclay said, “We are delighted to continue to partner with Disney Star as the home of ICC cricket for the next four years which has delivered an outstanding result for our Members and will support our ambitious growth plans. They will play a crucial role in the future of our sport and connecting and engaging with more fans than ever before.

K Madhavan, Country Manager and President, Disney Star said, “We are delighted at being able to continue our association with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and look forward to strengthening our partnership by growing the sport of cricket in the years ahead."

Barclay added, “Having a broadcast and digital partner for women’s events in India is a significant step forward in our ambition to accelerate the growth of the women’s game. Disney Star presented impressive plans for the promotion of women’s cricket and they clearly share our vision so I’m incredibly excited by the size of the opportunity ahead." 

“This was an incredibly competitive process, which isn’t surprising given the huge audiences that cricket consistently attracts with more than a billion fans that passionately follow the game globally. I’d like to thank all of the bidders for their interest in and support of cricket.”
