The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has completed the proof of concept of direct-to-mobile (D2M) technology, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting told Storyboard18.
Present at the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC), Hyderabad, Jaju addressed Storyboard18's query on the D2M.
He said, "We have done the proof of concept. Now we are going through the rigor of trying to understand how this can be rolled out."
The Secretary also mentioned that arguments and challenges of the telecom operators, phone makers, and other stakeholders are currently being assessed.
"... the question is when the phone makers come on board, how will the telcos come on board? all these questions are now being answered and that consultation process is currently on. But this is one important technology that one always looks at for providing again adequate options of media and entertainment...it is one technology that we need to try out."
Last month, Storyboard18 reported that Prasar Bharati, the public service broadcaster in collaboration with IIT Kanpur and Saankhya Labs, is conducting D2M trials using both high-power and low-power transmitters.
Jaju was present at the 16th edition of IGDC which is being organised by the Game Developer Association of India (GDAI). The conference is taking place from November 13-15 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC).
Expected to be the country’s largest event for gaming professionals, IGDC 2024 is bringing together 20,000 attendees, over 250 speakers, and a broad expo featuring top gaming companies, startups, and country pavilions.
